Therapy with Joan
I thought it would be helpful to give you an idea of what therapy with me will be like. This way you can be comfortable and know what to expect so we can begin our work immediately. If you have been in therapy before you may find this a rather different experience. It will be more effective, easier, faster and more enjoyable than what you may have experienced in the past. When you first come in I will do a very informal intake to help me acquaint myself with your general information. I will ask you why you are here and what you hope will happen as a result of our work together. Your answer may be very specific or more general in nature, but either way, I will start to get a picture of what you are seeking. During our first session we will begin to develop a list of goals and objectives for our work together. For instance, someone might come in with the goal of “getting over” the pain and sadness of a failed relationship. Or perhaps they are just unhappy in their lives and don’t really understand why, or how to change it. There may be family issues, anxiety, conflict, fears, obsessions and phobias. The list is endless but the approach is the same. We identify what you want to change and then set out in a specific manner to achieve that change. As time goes by we will search around in your life and past, finding where blockages and limiting beliefs are hiding or creating problems. These blockages might be in the form of beliefs, memories, physical or emotional trauma or other initially unidentified reasons. If we can, we make sense of these blockages and put them in context. If the source or reasons remain hidden or unconscious, we simply accept that what is needed will be available and move ahead in our work. Once we know where we are going and what we are going to achieve, we begin to apply both energy psychology techniques and the principals of the law of attraction to create that change. We will not only do the techniques in my office, but I will teach you how to do them on your own as well. You will be given specific strategies and techniques to help you continue your work between sessions to aid you in effectively reducing and eliminating your negative symptoms and beliefs. Although I also use other techniques, such as guided imagery and therapeutic hypnosis, as well as standard cognitive behavioral therapy, for the most part, once we identify the blockage, we simply focus our intention on healing it, and then use one energy technique or another to resolve it. Often when someone has released an issued, they’ll say something like, “I feel as if a great weight has been lifted from me.” We will focus on being constantly aware of the law of attraction and develop skills to both recognize negative thinking and negative vibrational levels, and how to move our creative thoughts and energy to where we want to go, rather than where we’ve been. To this end you will create a vision board as a visual reminder of what you are working toward and to raise your vibration to match that vision. Your vision is always where we’re headed. We keep refining it, making it more real, richer and fuller, and then focus on removing the blockages that stand in the way of reaching that vision, allowing for more and more growth. The process is exciting, effective and powerful. I hope you will call and come in to see me, although I also do phone sessions with people across the United States.
